Neurodiversity-affirming therapy
Neurodiversity-affirming therapy involves recognizing and respecting the diverse range of neurological differences among individuals. Instead of viewing conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and others as inherently negative or needing to be "fixed", this approach acknowledges that these differences are a natural part of human variation. In practical terms, it means tailoring therapy and support to meet the specific needs and strengths of each person. If necessary, we can provide accommodations in the therapy environment, and we understand that listening does not necessarily mean sitting still and making eye contact! Our work tends to focus on building on the individual's strengths rather than solely addressing deficits, but will be very much guided by what the client wants to work on. By embracing neurodiversity, the clinic aims to create an inclusive and supportive environment where all clients feel understood and empowered to thrive.
At NLC Psychology, we do not conduct diagnostic assessments for Autism or ADHD.
